Comprehensive assessment of risks (largely political) in locating what were perceived as dangerous facilities in residential /urban parkland.
Significant expertise developed in community consultation, prototype testing and refinement. Facility is considered to be the best in the world by its peers and performs with no fuss and minimum publicity.
Long term value is that the facility is virtually invisible from parkland and has no ominous prescence at all.
A rapid programme turned out to be a huge opportunity as all project Stakeholders had to challenge and question their preconceptions as to what a secure perimeter was.
The design solution which made the site work was that building facades were used as the secure perimeter, not set back behind a wall.
The project for this psychiatric facility included a gymnasium with basketball and volleyball courts.
