The new city-based home of RMIT’s School of Fashion & Textiles has delivered on the notions of what a learning and teaching space can be by “collapsing” the formal studio model. The student and staff experiences are elevated by establishing a new contemporary design atelier paradigm.
The project occupies the “penthouse” (Level 12) of the celebrated Edmond & Corrigan Building 8. Formerly the home of the School of Architecture the project balanced the renewed requirements of Fashion and Textiles with the existing fabric and space parameters, creating strategic design elements and insertions that recrafted a new and distinctive home.
The relocation of 4th year, Post-Graduates and Research cohorts on the City campus, provides an opportunity to announce to the wider community, industry and global affiliates the aspirations of the newly consolidated School of Fashion and Textiles.
