Outcomes

Spowers was engaged to deliver a standalone tech school for Victoria University, designed to support 120 students. Brimbank Tech School aims to provide secondary students in the local government area access to innovative, hands-on STEM learning.

A Practical Learning Environment
Brimbank Tech School is conceived as a series of flexible, future-focussed learning environments that reflect the five key themes of the school’s program: Advanced Technology, Real-World Learning, Future Careers, Transferable Skills, and Industry and Community Connection. The learning spaces connect emerging technologies with real-world applications and industry pathways.

The school provides opportunities for students to develop practical skills, explore emerging technologies and engage with authentic industry challenges. Specialist spaces, such as an eSports and Cyber Security Lab, allow students to develop real-world skills and cyber defence strategies within an immersive environment.

Success through Co-Design
Underpinned by a human-centred perspective, Spowers led a co-design process that shaped the project. Through collaboration with a broad range of stakeholders, partners, and end-users, this tailored engagement harnessed diverse perspectives and expertise. Together, we were able to establish a clear vision and deliver exceptional outcomes prioritising wellbeing, advanced technologies and digital transformation, environmental sustainability, social impact and resilient production systems (Industry 5.0).

The Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation was a key stakeholder in this project; the school is designed in partnership with them. Brimbank Tech School reflects 6 Layers of Country, connecting students to culture, Country and community.

Environmental sustainability is integral. In collaboration with ESD consultants Erbas, we tailored strategies and developed benchmarking to support Green Star certification, aligning with the Department of Education’s requirements and VU’s broader sustainability objectives.
