Architectural Services

Spowers worked with the MFB to design an improved and upgraded facility for the Altona fire station, located within a residential street in Melbourne’s southwest.

The key challenge facing the project team was to deliver the new station on the same site as the existing 24 hour station.  The existing facility was required to continue as a fully operational station during construction. To achieve this outcome, a staged construction period was employed, extensive and ongoing liaison and consultation with station crews and MFB representatives was required to ensure ongoing operations and safety on site during construction.

The MFB was keen to achieve a sustainable outcome for the building, therefore the project architect was vigilant in selecting materials with improved sustainability values and used best practice design principles, throughout the project.

Spowers also delivered MFB The Burnley Complex, Richmond.
