Spowers designed a school centre incorporating passive designed classroom blocks and refurbished learning commons and teaching spaces.
The concept provides a stunning new image for the school which relates strongly to existing conditions and the culture of the Parish.
St Joan of Arc involved the replacement of 4 portable classrooms and redevelopment of an effective learning commons. The portables had been clad with brickwork to the street frontage to form an “acceptable” planning interface, however the workmanship was of inferior quality and the portables were not able to be salvaged.
The completed works provided vibrant and cost effective solutions which transform the teaching environment. Proving that economical materials do not equate to “dull”. The colourful spaces allow personalisation and interaction together with an identifiable improvement to the external environment. In a Heritage Zone, clear and concise communication with neighbours and the wider local community ensured that respect for the surroundings did not compromise educational need.
