The Learning Commons Building at La Trobe University represents a pragmatic way of transforming near- redundant facilities into enlivened, active and connected spaces.
By working closely wit the university’s teaching and learning unit innovative collaborative models were developed in line with the university’s pedagogical aspirations. Support of blended learning with a focus on student directed approach underpinned most of the spaces, all with integrated and ubiquitous technology.
Classroom zones established throughout the largest unimpeded area of the floor, ensuring an adaptable approach to structured learning areas and enable re-configurable arrangements to attune to varying classroom sizes. With a mix of learning spaces that are quiet and enclosed, bookable and separate social environments, enabled fluctuation in population and ability to cater for many types of needs and circumstances.
