Film Victoria Office Fitout
Collins Street, Melbourne
Client: Film Victoria
Spowers’ design for Film Victoria’s new head office supports the creative, innovative services they provide to Victoria’s film, television and digital gaming industries. Our engagement commenced at site selection stage, with an existing office space in Melbourne’s Collins Place selected for closeness to frequently visited government offices and proximity overlooking the boutique Kino Cinemas.
The team designed a series of creative and flexible workspaces that could be easily reconfigured into function areas for industry events. A monochromatic palette was combined with stage-style lighting accents to dramatic effect, celebrating the many industries Film Victoria represents.
Informal meeting areas were thoughtfully positioned to encourage collaboration. Designed as pops of colour, they represent the emergence of technology in the industry and accentuate the black and white palette.
With a central core, a clear path of circulation was developed and further dramatised by the absence of traditional suspended ceiling and carpet tiles. All exposed services and the underside of the slab were blackened and enhanced with large industrial lights. Dark, acoustic paneled storage systems were used to further define the walkway, providing privacy to the workspace.
Spowers collaborated with Film Victoria to design a graphic wall for the main foyer, using multiple scales of ‘pixels’ to showcase Film Victoria’s contributions to the Australian and International industry. This, combined with continuous lyrical lighting, unraveling like a reel of film, draws visitors to reception.
Film Victoria’s new office is a vibrant workspace designed to foster creative outcomes, combining logical space design with bold, industry-relevant statements.
