Horseracing in Australia has had a long relationship with the media, and this continues at the Racing Museum and Racing Hall of Fame. The design is the result of an intimate collaboration between Spowers and Emery Frost that blurs the distinction between architecture and exhibition design. A home to historical artefacts; Carbine’s skeleton, famous jockey paraphernalia, fashions through the ages, paintings, sculptures and cups.
Ideas have been crafted using twentieth century references such as op art and pop art but updated with twenty-first century media techniques. They draw upon traditional and contemporary exhibition practices, distilled into a form that generates a heightened experience for the visitor and thus addresses modern entertainment expectations.
The finished result is a contemporary home for the Australian Racing Museum and Hall of Fame which combines aspects of a sporting museum, social history museum and natural history museum. As well as striving to present the stories and objects in a public museum context, we have sought to target a potential new audience for horseracing by introducing visitors to tis inherent spirit and excitement.
