Spowers were engaged primarily to provide an increase in the occupancy of the existing East Link Operations Centre in order to support a new business strategy, which included the co-location of a customer contact centre from another site.
In addition, the Stakeholders had aspirations re-invigorate their existing accommodation to support their staff into the future.
With a limited budget and a fully operational site, a project phasing strategy and a decanting methodology was developed early on in the process to understand and mitigate the potential risks and develop a design which could be built under these circumstances.
New ergonomic sit-stand workstations replaced old snowflake style desks. This also provided efficiencies in areas which unlocked further opportunities to transform the space. Clever use of feature lighting, whilst predominately maintaining the existing and the use of natural materials worked to create a less formal and sterile ambience. We created a custom graphic montage using icon Eastlink imagery which was applied to an acoustic wall material and adhered to the curved perimeter walls of the building, addressing acoustic concerns as well as animating the space with a sense of connection to the road.
