/ RMIT, Building 9 Media & Communication
-
Melbourne Campus, Victoria
The overall Building 9 project was about creating a new home for the School of Media and Communication – a school that was previously spread over ten various buildings and locations within RMIT. The School teaches Advertising, Communication, Communication Design, Editing & Publishing, Journalism, Media and Public Relations.
Through exstensive user group workshops, consultations and a prototyping process the design outcomes represent current industry practice in the convergence of all the disciplines taught within the school. Work integrated learning and a strong exposure of the research components within the school underpin the pedagogical aims and aspirations.
Multi-purpose collaborative learning spaces are supported by highly interactive visual and audio technology.
The design has also been thoughtful of a number of “glue” spaces that exist between the main areas. Development of breakout spaces for students to socialise and participate are critical to the overall school environment and further ensure high usability and activation of the building. It is these spaces that will enable flexibility and adaptability into the future.
