Monash University, College of Pharmacy
Client: Monash University
This building on Royal Parade accommodates administration for the Pharmacy College, the Pharmacy Board of Victoria, and the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (Victorian Branch).
This building links the primary open space of the campus to a public entry courtyard. The three level Conference Centre, together with the College Cafeteria, Cossar Hall and a private research facility, completes an ensemble of buildings with various public uses. A major biotech project in Melbourne’s ‘’knowledge strip’’, the facility incorporates industry and academic research and development. Application of selective air-conditioning systems, recycled materials, water treatment and reuse as a benchmark in new laboratory design. Obtained maximum development envelope possible in local heritage area, thus allowing commercial leasing to other pharmaceutical based organisations to increase viability.
Building 4 is the culmination of over ten years work in planning, design and finding of much needed facilities for Monash University.
Ros Magee and Nigel Fitton worked closely with Professor Colin Chapman to integrate the long term needs of the University Stakeholders with a modified Public / Private Partnership Contract. A complex series of novation arrangements ultimately delivered the project.
